Pileated Woodpecker

 

We hear them all time and catch glimpses occasionally, but this is the first time I was able to get an actual photo of one

    04/23/2010. Hard to capture on film, what a lovely photograph! On this rainy evening in WV, at 8pm, we just spotted one of these beauties on a tree outside the kitchen window. So hopeful that he selects a tree nearby and gets the woman of his dreams to use it!

    Perfect framing-- the woodpecker is notable, yet doesn't take over the scene; rather, he blends into it, adding a spark of color and a possibility of action.
